Recommend Large Black Tanto from Ka-Bar

I do not get out camping or hunting enough, so my estimation of a field knife must of needs, most often be done as I prepare food.  The large Tanto knife from Ka-Bar cuts and processes food better than any of my kitchen paring knives.

That fact is more surprising because it is also a large-profile fighting knife, and the blade is eight inches long. (actually seven-and seven-eights of an inch- which may be why it is sometimes reported to be seven inches, sometimes eight, depending on where you read)

It comes in a Kydex sheath, very good profile, easy to use, the knife and sheath combo will be great in the field.

------------------  from the web

" The Black Tanto combines traditional blade shape with high-tech materials for a modern fighting knife that has the phenomenal tip strength of a tanto blade, with the excellent rope cutting features of a partially serrated edge, and the tactical utility of a black coated fighting knife.

The Black Tanto features oval shaped Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer handles for good gripping when you need it. It also has a high carbon steel (1095) blade, hollow ground and epoxy powder coated with buff polished edges. This fixed blade knife is ready for your field tasks!

Blade Length: 8"
Blade Material: 1095 Steel
Handle Length: 4.875"

Sheath Material: Kydex

About the Kydex Sheath: Kydex is well known for its impact, abrasion and corrosion resistance and all weather performance. It is impervious to most chemicals, petroleum based products and moisture, including salt water.

The Kydex sheath is ambidexterous (can be used right or left handed), and the knife is held snugly in place by custom contoured knife cavities and friction bars on the back of the sheath. The sheath also features a heavy duty polypropylene belt loop and securing straps, as well as a slip lock on the belt loop itself. Eight eyelet rivets and for strap slots make for a secure and flexible tie down system, and there is a drain hole on the back of the sheath to prevent water build up."
