God had put on my heart to write this article. However, I could not get a handle on how to do it until today. Read this over and let me know any typos you find or anything you would like to add or take away.

To know love you have to know God. To know God you have to have revelation because God is so much greater than we are that we can not know him with our emotions, intellect, will, or body unless we first have a revelation of who He is in our human spirit. Our human spirit is the only part of us that is capable of knowing God, Who is Love. (John 4:24 NKJV) "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." Once I have a revelation in my spirit of God, Who is Love, then my imagination, my conscience, my memory, my emotion, my intellect, my will, and my body will all begin to have a knowledge of the love of God.

Love is God so all true love comes from God. Most of us think we know what love is, however, until we have a revelation of God's love we will never understand what love truly is. (1 John 4:8 NKJV) He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. The reverse of this scripture is also true. If I do not know God, I can not love. It can only come by revelation and the experiences that follow the revelation. I know love by revelation and by all the things that happen to me after the revelation. It is a revelation and an experience. Once I have the revelation and the experience, then I am capable of loving other people. (1 John 4:11 NKJV) Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another

Does God want us to really know his love? He wanted it so much that the sent his own son in the form of a man and sacrificed him on a cross, took his shed blood, and restored anyone and everyone who would receive what God did into the fullness of His Love. He did this so His son could die in your place and you would live spiritually forever. Your physical body may die, but your spirit will never die. (John 3:16 NKJV) "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (1 John 4:10 NKJV) In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (atoner) for our sins.

I can get an inkling of understanding about what love is through Chapter 13 of First Corinthians:

1. I may tell you in many ways that I love you, but if I don't really love you, I am just making a lot of noise

2. Though I can stand up and speak lofty and high sounding words, and know a lot of hard to understand things, but I don't have God, Who is Love, I am nothing

3. If I have total faith in myself so I can almost do miracles and don't have love, I am still nothing

4. And though I am generous enough to give everything I own to feed the poor, it profits me nothing unless I know Love, Who is God.

5 True Love suffers long

6 True Love is kind

7 True Love does not lust after other peoples success or possessions

8 True Love does not parade itself, and is not puffed up;

9 True Love does not behave rudely

10 True Love does not seek its own advantage

11 True Love is not provoked

12 True Love thinks no evil

13 True Love does not rejoice in other people's mistakes or sins. 14 True Love rejoices in the truth

14 True Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

15 True Love, Who is God, never fails.

If you have never confessed Jesus as your Lord and believed in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead to allow you to have this revelation, confess Him as your Lord and choose to believe that God raised Jesus from the dead so you could receive a true revelation of Love.

Now that you have confessed Jesus as your Lord, meditate on the list above as to what true love is. At the same time believe that God is going to come to you and immerse you in His love. Open yourself to the revelation of Love, Who is God. Keep meditating and opening yourself up until it happens. You can't make it happen, you just have to let it happen.

I had been a born again Christian for 23 years before this happened to me. One day, I was driving my car from High Point, NC to my job in Winston-Salem, NC. I was meditating on God that He was the source of everything that I needed. I was not necessarily thinking about His Love, just that He was the source of everything. All of a sudden, God came down in the car and baptized me in His Love. It was so strong that I was not sure I could keep driving my car. I floated for three days after that experience. Looking back on the experience I realize that it was the beginning of my ministry, it has brought all the other things that God wanted me to know about his kingdom, and it has caused me to become spiritually mature. When I look down the list of what true love is, I can truthfully say that I am able to do most of what is on the list. Sometimes I fail, however, the Holy Spirit is quick to convict me. I am able to quickly repent and God continues to mature me in His Love. This one experience, which happened over 30 years ago has been the most important experience of my Life. Every time I think about it, I can remember it as though it happened yesterday. When it happens to you, or if it already has, I am sure you will agree with me. Don't let another day go by without asking God, Who is Love, to reveal Himself to you.
