February 7, 2003, about two in the afternoon: A little while ago they announced a heightened terrorist alert, nationally. Let's discuss ten things you CAN do: 1) Fill up the tank on your vehicle, and an extra gas can if you have it. If you store the extra gas can a while, rotate it into your main tank. 2) Cook some food. Chicken will store better if already cooked, for instance, and does not have to be cooked again in order to eat it. 3) Get or make sure you have, canned goods, crackers, and other food that does not require electricity for storage. 4) Have at least five gallons of fresh drinking water on hand. 5) Wash all your dirty dishes and clothes- start now. If things get shut down, you will be ahead of the game. If not, your weekend is easier. 6) Make sure you have enough toilet paper. 7) Store some water to flush your toilet with, or have trash bags and a bucket where you can find it. 8) Investigate and acquire and alternate source of heat. Note that you can use the top of most kerosene heaters as a slow cooker, for stew. 9) Make sure you have candles, and matches, or fresh batteries for your flashlights, or lanterns and lantern supplies. 10) Consider staying away from large groups of people, as in shopping malls, or whatever, and spend some time around the house working on it, and / or enjoying your family for ten days. addenda thought this might be be some difficult, pie-in-the-sky list, didn't you? - Paul
